Today, I am writing a review of the Orefici ORMEJC555 .
Orefici, as a brand, rose to popularity in the last two years largely
in part to their fiery designs that have cultivated a large and loyal
following. I am particularly partial to watches that have clean lines and angular case constructions. This is something that I feel Orefici does extremely well.
When you look at the majority of their watches, there is a sense that
there is a lot of thought that goes into the design of their watches. Orefici can be traced all the way back to 1933, when the grandfather of the owner became an ' Orefice', which translates to Goldsmith in Italian. There is even a Via Orefici (Orefici street) traversing the middle of the district in Milan , where his atelier was located.
This Orefici watch with me today is quite a stunning watch made from 316L stainless steel. The case is finely brushed, which tones down the look of the watch, despite its 48mm case diameter . The watch sits tall on the wrist with its 17mm case height. Conversely, the ORMEJC555 isn't heavy. In fact, it's very well weighted – just enough to let you know it's there. The case features a crown guard protecting the push/pull crown. Flanking the crown on either side are textured, lever styled chronograph pushers. The pushpieces are easy to operate, yielding a small click indicating that the chronograph is engaged. The stationary bezel is scalloped at the vertices of the decagonal shaped bezel. The bezel also holds the mineral crystal firmly in place. Water resistance is rated at 100 meters (10 ATM). The lugs are very angular and contour to the wrist nicely.
Securing the watch to the wrist is a black rubber strap , which is fastened using a tang type buckle made also from brushed stainless steel . The rubber strap is pretty thick and very comfortable to wear. The strap isn't generic but is branded nicely with embossed Orefici stamping on either side of the lugs. On the case middle is the inscription “Edizione Limitata”, which is Italian for (I know you guessed it) Limited Edition . There are only 555 pieces of the Orefici ORMEJ2C555 made worldwide. This is revealed on the caseback, where it shows the individual number of the watch (XXX/555).
The caseback also prominently features the Arabic numeral '5', which
references the car number of Venezuelan born racing star EJ Viso. EJ Viso famously won the F3 British Championship in 2003. His signature is also engraved on the caseback.
The dial of the Orefici ORMEJ2C555 is predominantly white with a
honeycomb cut out motif, which reveals the brass colored base plate of
the Swiss made quartz chronograph movement, caliber Ronda 5030.D . Along the flange is a red minute track; and applied, beveled, gunmetal toned hour markers. This color scheme is echoed in the hour and minute hands, and subdial hands. Applied Arabic numeral markers come in at the 12, 2, 5, 8, and 10 positions. Naturally and in keeping with the theme, the numeral at the 5 position is oversized, and it really stands out. The counters at 3 and 9 are reminiscent of odometers that are found in racing cars – a nice touch from Orefici. These 2 subdials give readouts for continuous seconds, and chronograph minutes at 3 and 9 respectively. At 6 o'clock is the chronograph hours register, underscored by a rippled aesthetic using concentric lines. At the 4 position, there is a date aperture that blends very well with the other dial elements.
